G Jones Shows Some Love For Boston on Valentine’s Day [EVENT REVIEW]

On February the 14th, California native Greg Jones, better known as G Jones, packed the infamous Paradise Rock Club for another awe-inspiring stop on his The Ineffable Truth album tour. Released in the latter half of 2018, The Ineffable Truth has been an extremely well received LP that has now transitioned into an even more stunning string of sold-out live performances.

Tucked away in one of our favorite Boston boroughs, The Paradise Rock Club’s intimate open floor and overarching balcony rendered the perfect setting for a bass connoisseurs Valentine’s Day musical love affair. The fandom for G Jones was clear cut when spanning the room – I even stumbled across one fan who smuggled in a valentine’s day card labeled “FOR MR. G JONES XOXO”. Jones reciprocated the love through an almost 90-minute throw down somehow making the cohesive and exhilarating soundscapes that is The Ineffable Truth, sound and feel even better.

The tone was quickly set by openers Chee and Tsurda, both musical geniuses in their own rights; Tsurda took the crowd to new heights with his charisma and hype – a perfect transition into the evenings headline. Producing since he was 15 and making noises since he could walk, Tsurda unfailingly pleases with a very unique experimental bass-filled set that is always as fun as it is complex. We are happy to see Chee making his rounds on The Ineffable Truth tour as well. Hailing from South Africa, Chee achieved some international headwind after a 2016 release of his LP Shrondinger. Chees musical inspirations draw from the likes of Ivy Lab, Skrillex, Amon Tobin and Moody Good, most recently completing a collaboration with Noisia. Don’t be surprised to see both of these artists popping up more frequently on lineups near you.

Once the opening acts concluded, G Jones’ unique equipment necessary for his eclectic live sets was quickly assembled. The minutes in between seemed like an hour, and you could cut the excitement in the room with a knife. If we were judging by crowd hype alone, every track G Jones spun was perfection as the troupe devoured each drop. Some highlights of the evening were ‘Arbiters Theme’, ‘Time’, and ‘In Your Head’, standouts on the album themselves, these tracks live were simply flawless. Staying true to his art, the performance was beautifully paired with the scintillating and mesmerizing black and white G Jones visuals we have grown to know and love. This was one of the best live performances we’ve seen of late, hands down – The Ineffable Truth has been a 10/10 from album to tour.
